Getting "Elegance of Spring" Ready for Framing
After countless hours of stitching, it's inevitable that the fabric will become somewhat soiled, regardless of how meticulous one is about washing their hands before working on the project
I carefully washed the piece in lukewarm water with a gentle dishwashing liquid. After gently swishing it, I allowed it to soak for approximately fifteen minutes.
I take it out of the soapy water and gently squeeze it before submerging it in cold water, ensuring all the soap is rinsed away.
Next, I lay the piece between the layers of a white towel, roll it up, and press to eliminate any excess water.
With most of the water absorbed, I lay the piece face down on a clean white towel. With the iron sat to medium heat, I press the back until it is completely dry. I use the steam setting to tackle a few persistent creases.
When the cross-stitch piece has dried, it’s ready for stretching. I secured it onto a 13 x 20-inch acid-free foam core, which is 1/8 inch thick, using stainless steel pins to hold it in place.
"Elegance of Spring" is now stretched and ready for framing.
