While working on this project in 2010 I kept a weekly journal along with photos of my progress. It took months to finish the project.
Follow my progress as I
share my journal.
Monday, January 4 - Sunday, January 10
With the busy season of Christmas and New Year’s over I am anxious to start on another cross stitch project.
On Monday I go through my large collection of cross stitch leaflets and magazines. I have many projects that I would like to do someday so it is not easy to pick one.
Being that it is January and I'm pretty well fed up with winter; I decide that I need something that would cheer me up a bit and remind me that spring is on its way.
I now need to
decide on the fabric. On Wednesday I had to drive some distance to a favorite
shop that specializes in needlework.
On the
leaflet the design was stitched on a 14 count Fiddler's Blue Aida fabric. I decide
to do mine on a beautiful hand dyed Jobelan from Wichelt. It is a 28 count even
weave called summer sky; the perfect fabric for my project.
On Thursday I check out my floss collection to make sure I have all that I need for the project. Over the years I have collected every color that DMC puts out.
As I pull out the floss that I need for the project I notice that the colors are mostly in shades of gray. I am somewhat disappointed because the lady’s gown on the leaflet appears blue to me. Nevertheless, I decide to go ahead with the project.
I finally have everything ready to start stitching but other things in life take over.
On Thursday evening my eighty-nine-year-old dad is rushed to hospital due to heart failure. I spent the entire night at the hospital with my mom and siblings.
By morning we got the good news that dad made it through the crisis but would require surgery to have a pacemaker implanted. My weekend is entirely dedicated to my family.
